What Are The Benefits Of FumoFlow Grain Sheds?

FumoFlow grain sheds are set to redefine grain storage in more ways than one.

FumoFlow grain sheds offer an industry first: a fumigation recirculation and ventilation system in a grain shed.

The system makes treating grain safer, faster, easier and more effective.

It’s a shiny new product.

But what are the benefits for the grower? What challenges does a FumoFlow shed solve? What opportunities does it provide?

Because when it comes to the crunch, you need to be confident that there is a clear business case for a FumoFlow grain shed.

In this article, we discuss the benefits of FumoFlow grain sheds and how they help you stay ahead of the game with increased safety, efficiency and profitability.

Top Benefits Of FumoFlow Grain Sheds

On-farm storage is a smart investment. A FumoFlow grain shed is an even smarter one.

  1. Saves Time With Easy Set Up

FumoFlow grain sheds are purpose-built and fumigation ready.

The patent-pending design focuses on making fumigation simpler and more efficient for both growers and contractors.

Instead of setting up a temporary system each time grain needs treating, the shed is designed to make the process quick and repeatable.

For example, the custom tarp pulley system is simple to operate and allows the shed to be tarped ready for fumigation in about 30 minutes, depending on the shed size and labour available. And the more times you do it the more streamlined it becomes.

An efficient, well-oiled set up allows you to respond to market opportunities faster and reduces stress at busy times of the year.

  1. Ground Level Fumigation Keeps You Safe

Safety is one of the major benefits of FumoFlow grain sheds.

A FumoFlow grain shed is designed to reduce operator exposure to fumigant during the highest-risk points of the process.

For example, once a FumoFlow grain shed is tarped, the shed can be locked up and fumigant is introduced from outside the shed.

A FumoFlow shed can also be vented from the outside, with the system using fans to speed up the venting time. Gas levels are monitored so that entry does not occur until concentrations have dropped below the exposure limit.

In comparison, a traditional tarped shed usually requires a person to enter the shed to introduce the fumigant and then re-enter post fumigation to start the venting process.

Similarly, in sealed grain sheds operators may still need to manually open doors and rely on passive ventilation before it is safe to go inside, increasing the risk of phosphine exposure.

Safe venting is becoming even more important as Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) tighten, which leads us to our next point.

  1. Quicker Venting Makes Compliance Easier

Using the FumoFlow fan system to vent the shed, shortens the time it takes to clear fumigant and reach the required exposure limits.

What are the advantages of this?

  • Improves staff safety by reducing the risk of phosphine exposure
  • Makes it easier to comply with the new lower phosphine exposure limits, coming into effect in December 2026
  • Speeds up the overall process which may allow you to capitalise on market opportunities
  • Helps reduce the risk of loads being rejected at receival sites, saving time, money and stress.

  1. Faster Fumigation Opens New Market Opportunities

The patent-pending FumoFlow system doesn’t just speed up the ventilation process as we have just mentioned.

The recirculation component also significantly speeds up the fumigation process by actively moving fumigant through the grain stack.

This reduces the time it takes to reach required concentration levels, in some cases shortening the process by as much as half the time.

For growers, shorter fumigation cycles can mean much more flexibility when marketing grain – allowing them to respond to market opportunities as they arise.

  1. Even Application Reduces Resistance Risk

The benefit of a fumigant recirculation system in a grain shed isn’t just in the speed.

The FumoFlow recirculation system also provides a more effective kill and reduces the risk of insect resistance.

How?

By providing a more even gas distribution through the grain and reaching concentration levels faster.

In comparison, storage without recirculation can result in uneven gas distribution through the grain, with some insects surviving and developing resistance over time.

With the increasing risk of phosphine resistance front of mind for many in the industry, a FumoFlow grain shed provides a very timely and practical solution.

  1. Maximises Harvest Value With New Markets

One of the biggest benefits of FumoFlow grain sheds is the access to new markets.

A FumoFlow grain shed can store the same grain and commodities as a standard grain shed, including cereals, pulses and oilseeds.

However, it also gives you the option to store higher value commodities where a non-contact fumigation method may be preferred or required to help protect grain quality and meet market requirements.

Wanting to maximise harvest value?  Looking to sell into Pesticide Residue Free markets?

A FumoFlow grain shed may be the answer!

  1. A Versatile Storage Asset Provides Greater ROI

We often say a versatile shed is the best way to achieve value for money and improve return on investment.

And a FumoFlow grain shed is the most versatile grain storage option on the market.

Here’s why:

  • Designed to be used by both growers and fumigation contractors.
  • Developed to be used with both cylinderised and solid form fumigant
  • Able to store feed-grade wheat or higher value commodities, depending on your requirements.
  • It can be repurposed for machinery storage or fertiliser storage in the off season.

For example, while sealed grain sheds often have a height restriction of around six metres, this is not the case for FumoFlow grain sheds.

This means trucks can tip inside a FumoFlow grain shed for efficient unloading – and makes it much more useful for machinery storage in the off season.

However, as with any grain storage system, good hygiene, correct grain moisture and best-practice storage management are essential.

All The Benefits Of A Standard Action Grain Shed – Plus More

Action grain sheds have been incredibly popular over the past five years, reflecting the broader industry trend of investing in on-farm storage.

And for good reasons too.

From efficiency at harvest to greater selling flexibility throughout the year, Action grain sheds are keeping growers on top of their game.

And you don’t have to sacrifice any of these benefits with a FumoFlow grain shed!
