FumoFlow is a new way treat grain on farm. It’s a natural next step for growers who take fumigation seriously and want a system that’s proven, safer and more effective for bulk storage.
Naturally, that raises a few questions. Here are the answers to the ones we get asked most, from sizing to ventilation to what the trial data actually shows.
Does FumoFlow work with any grain shed size?
Yes. FumoFlow’s system is designed to scale with the shed, from smaller on-farm storage of 500 tonne right through to full commercial capacity.
Does FumoFlow work with my existing grain shed?
No. FumoFlow is a new grain shed, designed with the fumigation system built in from the start. Fumigant entry points, recirculation fans and ventilation are part of the structure itself, not fitted after the fact. If you’re after fumigation for a shed you already own, FumoFlow isn’t a retrofit. It’s a new build.
Does FumoFlow do aeration?
No. FumoFlow is designed as an effective solution for fumigating grain, with even coverage through the stack, from the surface to the floor. It’s not built as an aeration system.
How is the shed cleared for ventilation?
Once the hold period’s done, the fumigation system switches to vent mode. The same fans that drove recirculation now pull fresh air through the shed and clear the fumigant out, managed the whole time from outside. No climbing in to check. No guessing if it’s safe. In FumoFlow’s full-scale trial, the shed reached safe clearance in 4 days.
Has FumoFlow actually been proven to work?
Yes. In a full-scale trial across 5,420 tonnes of wheat, 12 independent monitoring probes tracked phosphine concentration from the surface right down to floor level. Every single probe held above the industry thresholds for the full exposure window, including at floor level and furthest from the fumigation boxes, where uneven distribution has traditionally been hardest to avoid. Do I need to enter the shed during fumigation or ventilation?
No. Once the shed’s loaded and sealed, both fumigation and ventilation are managed from outside. There’s no need to climb in to start the process or check on it partway through.
How long does the process take?
Hold times depend on the target you’re fumigating for, commonly 7 to 10 days to meet the industry thresholds for resistant strains and susceptible insect populations. Once that’s done, FumoFlow clears for safe re-entry in around 4 days, so grain handling can resume sooner.
